The fluids and solutions that are commonly used in hospital cleaning pose a serious threat to the health of both the staff and the patients. One study has found that a great number of potentially harmful chemicals are present in most cleaning agents used in many hospitals.

Common cleaning tasks in hospitals include floor finishing as well as the cleaning of floors, hospital mirrors and windows, toilet bowls, sinks and counters. Cleaning products usually used are all purpose cleaners, glass cleaners, washroom cleaners and so on. Studies revealed that workers were at a high risk for acute and chronic inhalation exposures to VOC vapors and aerosols.
