Locate the Inside Leak

If you need a roof leak repair, you first need to try to locate the leak from the inside. You can use a flashlight to inspect the floor of the attic for water stains, mold, standing water and wet or exposed insulation. Look at the roof underside for mold or dampness around chimneys and plumbing vents. These points of penetration are often the area for leaks to occur. Remember that water may travel laterally in the roofing material before passing through an opening to fall on the floor or ceiling. The real leak may be several feet away from the area of dampness.
